There’s so much going on at HPUMC just in the first couple of months of the coming year! We’re kicking off 2020 with events focused on reading and discussing Scripture, building community, and so much more. If January and February are any indication, this is going to be an unforgettable year.
Look below to see what’s coming up, when it’s happening, and how you can get involved or take the next step in your faith journey.
“The Twenties” Sermon Series
Starting January 5
Every decade is known for something: The Beatles, Woodstock, big hair, the internet. In 10 years, the 2020s will be remembered for something; we just don't know what.
Join us for this series, “The Twenties: Define your Decade,” to help determine what the 2020s will be known for — for you.
Holy Land Adventure
January 13 – 23
A group of travelers will join Rev. Matt Tuggle, Rev. Walt Marcum, and Richard Stanford on a pilgrimage through Israel, visiting the prominent places of Jesus’ life. They will explore biblical sites, including the Sea of Galilee, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Jericho, Nazareth, Capernaum, and more. Plus, they will experience contemporary life in this important center of faith.
New Bible Reading Plan
Starts January 13
We believe that, through God's grace, we are transformed when we engage with the Bible through devotional reading. So, we invite you to take part in our upcoming Bible Reading Plan, “Letters from Prison,” which features four letters that Paul wrote, while imprisoned, to churches that he started. Follow along in a physical booklet, participate online, or come to our Midweek Bible Study, led by Hannah Buchanan, on Wednesdays starting January 15.

Small Group Launch
February 4 | 7:00 – 8:30 pm | Room 385
Spiritual growth doesn't only happen in corporate worship, but often in less formal gatherings like Small Groups, which typically meet on a weekly basis for fellowship, study, prayer, and reflection. Small groups of six to 10 people allow us to experience the purpose and power of Christ in our lives, dig deeper in our faith, and grow closer to God.
At our Small Group Launch, you'll talk to people already in a small group, meet others interested in joining a group, and find one that best fits your needs and schedule. The small groups that form will follow an eight-week curriculum based on building and growing community around issues of faith.
Women's Retreat
February 28 – 29
Have you ever felt like maybe there was more? More than just constantly going through the motions or managing expectations and schedules and strategies. More than worry or stress, or even what comes next?
Maybe you feel like you're sitting in the boat, safe and secure, but you feel Jesus reaching out to you, offering you a hand and calling you to step out onto the water. It may seem impossible or impractical, but what if he is calling you to take a leap? To leave your place of safety and confidence and boldly take a step out into the unknown? What if you could walk on water? What's holding you back?
Join keynote speakers, Hannah Buchanan and Sarah Beard, and the women of HPUMC for a Leap Day you’ll never forget.
