SERVE WITH HPUMC
"Every believer has received grace gifts, so use them to serve one another as faithful stewards of the many-colored tapestry of God's grace." -1 Peter 4:10
We envision the church, empowered by the Holy Spirit, serving across all ministries, including in worship services, all age levels, adults, care, and disability ministries. We believe the Holy Spirit grants us spiritual gifts, according to God's design, to use for the good of others, meeting their needs and where they are. We encourage engagement that is relational and actively interpersonal, as we serve as individuals and in groups to grow in spiritual community with each other and with those whom we serve.
Not sure where you could best serve? Let us help you!

Altar Guild: Communion Prep for Cornerstone
Known as the Altar Guild, this group prepares the elements for Communion for Cornerstone services and sets the table with the elements. Communion is served monthly at the 9:30 and 11 am services. Team members arrive at 7:30 am and serve for approximately an hour.
Cafe Volunteer
Help us serve slushies, Chick-fil-A, pizza, and more on a Wednesday night! In this role, you will help us make a fun cafe environment for our middle school and high school students. By serving, you're helping us create a place where students can have fun, engage in their faith, and grab dinner after school! Food handling license and prior experience helpful but not required—training will be provided.
Camera Operator
This volunteer will operate a camera that provides the images for our online broadcast, as well as the screens and monitors in our venues' lobbies. The role is critical in helping communicate the message and the vision of the Sanctuary, Wesley Hall, and Cox Chapel worship services. The ability to follow directions is a must. No experience is required; training will be provided. Depending on the venue, you must attend the Sunday morning run-through (we will provide more details after sign-up). You will then work the services in your venue until services are complete. Time commitment options are as follows. One camera operator is needed per service, except for our Cornerstone venue which requires four camera operators per service.
Sanctuary: One or all of the following times: Sunday 7:30-9:30 am, Sunday 9:15-10:45 am, Sunday 10:30 am-12:15 pm
Cornerstone: One or both of the following times. Sunday 8-10:45 am, Sunday 10:30 am-12:15 pm

Elementary Shepherd
As an Elementary Shepherd, you’ll play a key role in creating a warm and welcoming environment for Kinder through fifth graders, helping them feel safe, known, and loved. You’ll facilitate pre-written and pre-prepared lessons (sent to you ahead of time), get to know the kids in your group, and guide them through activities and discussions. Shepherds also help keep the classroom running smoothly, ensuring kids stay engaged and have fun. Opportunities are available during the 9:30 and 11:00 am services. All volunteers are required to complete a background check and MinistrySafe training every two years.
Gym Volunteer
Do you love basketball, volleyball, or pickleball? We would love to have you join us on Wednesday nights to create a fun and safe environment for HPUMC Youth. You'll help start basketball games, make sure that students are being kind to one another, and help students set up for other sports they may want to play in the Tolleson Gym! Thank you for helping them see the church as a place that is fun!
Journey Ministry Volunteer
Journey is a dementia respite program. Volunteers are paired with a participant with dementia to help them in activities. The program meets each Thursdays from 9:45 am to 2:15 pm to provide respite for the caregivers of participants. We have music, exercise, brain games, low-impact activities, social time, and more.
Night OWLS Respite Volunteer
One Friday night a month, we give parents and caregivers a night off by hosting our Night OWLS respite program for kids with disabilities and their siblings. As a volunteer, you will be paired one-on-one with a child (with or without a disability) to support them in all the evening's activities. The more volunteers who sign up, the more families we are able to serve through this program.
You must attend a 2.5-hour training to volunteer in Belong programs. No prior experience with individuals with disabilities is required.
Nursery Helper
Join our nursery team and help care for infants and toddlers (ages 0-2) in a loving, safe, and nurturing environment. You’ll work alongside a team of experienced caregivers who handle the tough tasks, so you can focus on supporting and showing God’s love to our little ones. Opportunities are available during the 9:30 and 11:00 am services. All volunteers are required to complete a background check and MinistrySafe training every two years.
