Fall preview: Belong Disability Ministry

September 21, 2021

Belong Disability Ministry is proud to offer programs open to anyone in the DFW community who is or has a family member affected by a disability. We welcome you, and we’re committed to the physical, spiritual, and emotional health of those we serve. Look below to see some of what’s happening this fall and beyond with Belong.

Worshiping in person again

Sundays at 8:30 am | Tolleson Family Activity Center

Based on the heavenly feast to which all are invited and included, The Feast is a worship service with and by the disability community. We gather every Sunday for about 30 minutes to rejoice in the Lord through singing, Scripture, prayer, reflection, and Communion. There’s always lots of joy! All are welcome — we would love for you to worship with us!

Spotlight Musical Theater is in the spotlight!

Spotlight Musical Theater is a theater group comprised of older teens and adults with disabilities who work with a professional artistic team for six months to create and perform an original musical.

Rehearsals have already begun for the upcoming Spotlight production, with the entire process, from first rehearsal to opening night, being filmed by a documentary crew. We’re so excited about this opportunity to share a behind-the-scenes look at the hard work and dedication of some of our amazing Belong Disability Ministry participants! More information to come.

CHANCE’S PIE & COFFEE SHOP HAS REOPENED

You may have noticed hungry or thirsty people flocking to the Tolleson Family Activity Center, Cornerstone Cafe, and Sanctuary Hub lately. That’s because Chance’s Pie & Coffee Shop has reopened! Managed and run by participants of the Belong Disability Ministry, Chance’s serves coffee, pies, and more.

Volunteer Opportunities

We’re so grateful for our volunteers — they’re the backbone of our programs. Without those who serve, we would not have Belong Disability Ministry. Interested in volunteering? Opportunities are available during the day, in the evening, and on weekends to serve children, teens, and adults with disabilities. To volunteer, contact Melanie Lucido, Belong Volunteer Coordinator, at lucidom@hpumc.org or 2145212177.

Resource Center

Are you or someone you know having difficulty finding what you need pertaining to disabilities? Contacting the Resource Center is a great first step to get your hands on tangible resources. Information is available on: parent and self-advocacy, respite, government benefit programs, housing, transition, early intervention programs, employment, emotional and spiritual support, future planning, and more. Types of services include: family or one-on-one meetings with Resource Navigator, quarterly educational seminars and sibshops, and biannual adult sibling seminars and events.
