The Greatest Story Ever Told

“When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him.” —Matthew 2:10-11

There are incredible stories surrounding the birth of Jesus, all combining to create what we believe to be the greatest story ever told. It begins with God’s promise to bring His people a Messiah, and that promise begins to be fulfilled when an angel appears to Mary, announcing that she will have a baby boy and name him Jesus. The events that led Mary and Joseph to the town of Bethlehem at first appeared to be nothing special. Caesar Augustus, the first Roman emperor, had decreed that everyone should be registered. Each person went to his place of origin for the census.

THE BIRTH OF JESUS: A STORY OF HOPE

After being turned away from the inn in Bethlehem, Mary gave birth to Jesus and laid him in a manger, wrapped in swaddling cloths for comfort. It was a truly humble birth, and while the timing may have not seemed ideal, God had a purpose for it all.

The Magi, also known as the Wise Men, followed a guiding star to Mary and the child. They offered to Jesus their gifts and their worship. They recognized him, even as a child, as their one true king, forgoing the king who sought to kill him. The story of Jesus’ birth is one of faith, courage, hope, and great joy.
