An Angel Visits Mary: A Story of Faith

December 05, 2023 by Analise Narine

Mary said, “I am the servant of the Lord. Let this happen to me as you say!” Then the angel went away. — Luke 1:38

Something impossible is about to happen to you. It is completely unprecedented and may very well ruin your reputation in your community, as many will not believe you. Do you accept this fate?

Here’s Mary’s response: wholeheartedly. But the young woman wasn’t without fear. She was startled by the angel Gabriel’s appearance and his opening claim that the Lord had blessed her and was with her. Her mind was likely racing, wondering what made her special enough for God to send one of his angels to seek her out.

No one is too ordinary for God to use. His criteria are often different from our criteria.

She soon received her answer. “Don’t be afraid. Mary; God has shown you his grace,” the angel said. “You will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.”

God cares about your fears enough to send messengers to assuage them.

Mary just had one final question, and it boiled down to this: How will the impossible become possible? Simple. “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will cover you,” the angel said.

Nothing is impossible with God.

Not only this, he continued, but Mary’s own relative, Elizabeth, had become pregnant with a son in her old age. “Everyone thought she could not have a baby, but she has been pregnant for six months. God can do anything!” the angel said.

There are miracles, big and small, happening all around you if you take a closer look.

Mary’s fear transformed into faith as she remembered that her God had the power to make the impossible possible. God, through his messenger, didn’t brush aside Mary’s fears, questions, or concerns—He addressed them and guided her every step of the way.

God cares for you. He is with you even during times of uncertainty.

Mary, pregnant with the baby Jesus, was on a powerful journey. Look out for more of The Greatest Story Ever Told in the coming weeks this Christmas season.
