New Building Welcomes Children of Costa Rica

Jesus welcomes children in the vibrant mural adorning the Methodist Children’s Home of Costa Rica’s brand-new Multipurpose Building. Contrasting the facility’s fresh white paint, the colorful scene reflects the bright hues of the tropical countryside and Costa Rican culture, as well as the Building’s mission to be an inviting place for youth to learn, gather, and grow in God’s Word.

Over the course of eight years, numerous prayers, meetings, and mission trips brought the dream of the Multipurpose Building at the Methodist Children’s Home of Costa Rica to life. In March 2022, HPUMC staff members and congregants traveled back to Costa Rica to honor its inauguration with a dedication ceremony.

“With your generosity and your labor we’ve seen dozens and dozens of ministry teams from Highland Park come down and with their sweat equity build this remarkable place,” Rev. Paul Rasmussen, HPUMC Senior Minister, said.

This year’s trip saw the return of some who have been a part of the journey from the beginning as well as others who were joining the effort for the first time. At the end of the visit, no matter how long they have participated, each attendee went home with a grateful heart and hope for what is possible when you allow God to work through your time, energy, and resources.

“It’s been such a blessing just to see God at work in all the little moments and the big moments too, but also on the team members that I’ve been fortunate enough to come down here with,” Rich Rogers, mission team leader, said.

While we celebrate the dedication of the new Multipurpose Building, our work at the Methodist Children’s Home of Costa Rica is not finished. Join us in supporting this continued partnership through your serving, financial gifts, and prayers.
