They can be loud.
They can be crazy.
They can make as big an impact in your life as you can in theirs.
They’re the kids of Highland Park United Methodist Church.
And right now, there are lots of fun opportunities available to join the joy of teaching children about Jesus. Here are just a few of the many reasons to volunteer with HPUMC Kids.
It makes a difference
Our kids want to feel known when they walk into our church. When a volunteer or teacher calls them by name, it makes a huge difference! Having an adult or youth that is consistently showing up for them, calling them by name, and asking about their week makes our kids feel safe, known, and truly loved by God.
You don't have to be a Bible scholar
Sometimes the role of "Sunday school teacher" sounds intimidating because you assume you have to know everything about the Bible to serve. That is definitely not the case! Sunday school is a place where you can learn right along with the kids. You don't have to know all the answers — you just have to be willing to say, "That's a great question. I'll have to find out!"
Our volunteers have purpose
We aren't just looking for babysitters to make sure chaos doesn't ensue. We want volunteers who are seeking to engage with our kids. When you serve each week, a lead teacher will give you a card with a single goal for the day, such as getting to know the names of three kids in your class. When you serve with us, we want you to feel like you have the tools that you need and that you are a vital part of making our morning happen!
We like to have fun
Above all else, in HPUMC Kids, we like to have fun. Kids like to laugh a lot, sing silly songs, play, and sometimes they'll wipe their nose on your shirt. It's the truth. Kids also ask a lot of funny questions — it's very entertaining.
It's a true joy to serve the kids of our church, and there’s never a dull moment, so make sure you're ready to have fun!
