Seven things you might have missed in 2021

This year saw Highland Park United Methodist Church continuing to thrive. We launched a new campus, celebrated Easter in Ford’s SMU Stadium, and so much more!

As we look forward to the possibilities of 2022, we want to pause and reflect on a few of the amazing things that took place in the life of our church this past year. Here are seven things you don’t want to miss from 2021!

Uptown Church launched at House of Blues

In January, after nearly a year of praying, planning, and preparing, HPUMC opened its 40th church, Uptown Church, for weekly worship at House of Blues. This brand-new church, led by Campus Pastor Rev. Joy Gonzalez, is in the city and for the city.

HPUMC celebrated Easter in SMU’s Ford Stadium

On April 4, more than 5,500 people celebrated Easter in person and thousands worshiped online with us at one of two services—a Sunrise Service in Arden Forest and an all-church Easter Service at SMU’s Ford Stadium.

We partnered with St. Luke “Community” UMC

Rev. Paul Rasmussen, Senior Pastor of Highland Park United Methodist Church, and Rev. Richie Butler, Senior Pastor of St. Luke “Community” United Methodist Church were thrilled when HPUMC began hosting St. Luke for in-person weekly worship services in July. Our partnership has grown, and we’ve collaborated on a Together We Dine event, Hanging of the Greens worship service, coat collection for neighbors in need, and more.

Chance's Pie & Coffee Shop relaunched in September

Your favorite place for crave-worthy eats and drinks reopened for the first time since March 2020! The Chance’s crew, all of whom are participants of the Belong Disability Ministry, were also excited to announce a new addition to their menu—Seriously Good Costa Rican Blend Coffee. Sales of this coffee benefit HPUMC's Belong Disability Ministry and the Methodist Children's Home in Costa Rica, which currently provides a home for 24 homeless children.

In-person VBS returned after two years

With a theme of “Press Play,” this year's VBS helped children grow in confidence as they began to see themselves the way that Jesus does. From June 21 to 24, our kids learned that they are loved, they belong, and they make a difference.
