This time of year, high school seniors are usually making tons of fun memories with friends, graduating in front of their families, and looking forward to whatever the next year may hold for them. While much of that remains true, the current pandemic has also changed so much for these young adults.

However, HPUMC still found unique ways to recognize and celebrate their graduating seniors. “We decided that we would drive to every senior in our youth program's home and deliver them a yard sign and pray with them,” High School Pastor, Chelsea Peddecord, said.

Some of the students were half-asleep or in the middle of AP exams when our high school team knocked on their front doors. Some were surprised. Some were excited. Some were just ready to get back into bed.

After staking the signs in the yards, the students and their families prayed with our high school pastors. There were tears shed over the loss of not having a real “last day” of school, but also peace in the thought that these seniors will share this experience with future classmates and roommates.

Perhaps one lesson that the HPUMC Youth team hopes the class of 2020 can take away from this unusual year is “That in the midst of uncertain times, God is certain,” said Peddecord. “We love you, class of 2020! You have made our church, our youth ministry, and our world better.”
