Repeat After Me: Praying for Forgiveness
June 28, 2016
So when we ask for forgiveness from our sins or forgive us our trespasses, we're saying "God I acknowledge I've messed up, please cleanse me of that so our relationship together can be renewed and restored."
And then I think on the flip side of that it's important to say forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us because as we forgive others who trespass against us. We're acknowledging what Christ did for us, which is to forgive us.
Forgiveness is saying I forgive you, I'm not gonna harbor resentment towards you, I'm gonna let it go, we're gonna move on. It doesn't mean necessarily that they'll be full reconciliation, restoration, of course that's perhaps the ultimate goal but really that's up to God.
What we're doing when we forgive others is freeing our hearts so that God's spirit can work through us and in us and we can move on and live the abundant life that Christ has given us and wants us to live.
