Repeat After Me: Hallowed Be Your Name
May 31, 2016
Ever since I was a young girl, I have loved worship. There’s something about the idea that while we are physically on earth, we can draw close to the Lord by uplifting Him in song and prayer. When I worship, I become fully aware of the Lord’s presence in my life.
When I hear the Lord’s Prayer, I’m always struck by the very first line. Right from the beginning we are reminded that God is “Our Father”.
My earthly father has been awesome to me and I am proud to call myself a daddy’s girl. Growing up, I knew I could get anything from my dad. My two brothers on the other hand had to jump through hoops, but I had it easy. It wasn’t long before I figured out that, as his only daughter, my relationship with my dad meant that I could depend on him to go completely out of his way to meet my needs.
Every time I hear The Lord’s Prayer I’m reminded that, as good as my relationship is with my earthly father, it doesn’t compare to my relationship with my Heavenly Father.
God doesn’t want us to be formal with Him, as if He’s not close to us and isn’t concerned with our daily struggles. The Lord’s Prayer actually teaches us to call Him dad. He’s not judging us; He’s forgiving and gracious. He’s a Dad! His love is unconditional.
That’s not even the best part, in my opinion. The next line in the The Lord’s Prayer, “Hallowed be Thy name,” is all about worship. That means before we ask anything of the Lord, we are to give Him praise.
In everything I do, I want to give God all the glory. Every weekend I stand on stage and lead hundreds of people in worship, all to bring Him glory. I’ve chosen this as my life’s work because I want to be an example of His love on earth.
My life is far from perfect. I am far from perfect. But God always shows me grace through His perfect love. If I can make it known every day how great God is, I’ve done my job as His daughter.
The Lord’s Prayer teaches us to magnify the Lord, to glorify Him, and praise His name. No matter what we do, we should desire to make it known how wonderful He is each and every day.
