For months, Claire Derozier didn't know who was leaving notes on her desk. To this day she has an envelope full of encouraging messages, saying everything from "God loves you," to "He will be with you always."
“I did a little research and found out it was someone working in the Prayer Tower on Fridays,” says Derozier.
Then finally one Friday, Derozier met her friend-in-prayer face-to-face, finally learning a name to put with her envelope of notes.
Ken Korges, a long-time HPUMC member had actually met Derozier when she first started working as a receptionist for the church. Little did she know, she wasn’t the only beneficiary of Ken’s encouraging messages.
In fact, if you ask around, you’ll find many staff members of HPUMC who light up at the mention of Ken’s name. Not only is he well known for leaving notes on desks and tucked under office doors, Ken can frequently be found walking the halls of the church, praying for the building, for the staff, and the congregation. And if you stumble upon him during one of these prayer walks, there’s a good chance he may stop you and ask if there’s anything you would like to pray about.
Since meeting in person, Derozier and Korges have created a new routine on Friday afternoons. As Korges finishes his time in the Prayer Tower and heads downstairs, he always stops by Derozier's desk so they can pray together.
“He is a constant reminder that no matter how dull the day is, you are doing God’s work,” says Derozier. “That’s such a good feeling. I think I would lose that easily if it weren’t for people like Ken.”
