In just a few weeks, crews will place the final beam on top of the new Tolleson Family Activity Center, marking a significant milestone in the building’s construction.

Rev. Paul Rasmussen, Senior Minister of Highland Park United Methodist Church, got the chance to see inside the building for the first time last week. Paul, along with Ken Reiser, HPUMC’s Executive Director of Multi-site and Expansion, toured each of the building’s four floors. This month marks the halfway point of construction, which officially began in August with a ceremonial groundbreaking.

The new building features 65,000 square feet of space for HPUMC’s Special Needs Ministry, Family Ministry, and an underground parking garage.

The first floor will be dedicated to the Special Needs Ministry and features a sensory room, a motor movement room, and a fully functional kitchen called Chance’s Pie Palace. The second floor will house HPUMC’s Youth Ministry and comes complete with a gaming center, lounge area, café, and small group rooms. The third floor is where you’ll find a full-size gymnasium and 500-person worship center. Beneath all of this is the underground garage, which will add 140 new parking spaces! The building is part of the $65 million Beyond Capital Campaign, in which Paul challenged the congregation to move beyond ourselves, beyond our limits, and beyond our walls.

Construction on the Tolleson Family Activity Center is expected to be finished in March 2019.
