How can you invest in the future of Dallas?

In an effort to unite the classroom and community, HPUMC is partnering with United to Learn, a non-profit committed to accelerating student achievement. Together, through Classroom Connect, our goal is to give students and faculty at KB Polk Elementary, an economically disadvantaged school in Dallas, what they need to succeed — from school supplies to dedicated tutors to financial support.

Students of KB Polk Elementary definitely felt welcomed when they came back to school on Monday, October 5 for in-person learning — even before they set foot inside the school.

That’s because several members of HPUMC’s Chancel Choir, as well as their family and friends, spent time on Saturday, October 3 beautifying the exterior of KB Polk. To create a bright, inviting environment outside of the school, they added planters to the front entrance, cleaned up the courtyards and gardens, restored and painted a bench, and more.

As part of our Classroom Connect initiative, this service day’s mission was to help erase the opportunity gap in our community through our presence and support of this economically disadvantaged school in Dallas.

“What may seem like a small act of weeding a garden, planting fresh flowers or raking leaves in a courtyard can actually make a big difference in creating an environment which encourages students to keep learning and growing,” Ally Drummond, HPUMC’s Outreach Intern, said.

“By serving our neighbors in this way,” she continued, “we are intentionally showing our support for the lives of these students and their families.”
