Whether at Lake Tawakoni, White Rock Lake, SMU, or Dallas neighborhoods, the Belong disABILITY Community is thriving through our ministry-wide Fitness Challenge. We’ve challenged participants to walk, roll, or move for 30 minutes every day and post what they did and for how long on our Belong Facebook page.

Each Friday morning, we post a leaderboard with the total amount of minutes an individual has exercised since the challenge began. As soon as we are back in the church building and given the green light, we will have a fabulous celebration for all Fitness Challenge participants!

Some are swimming, biking, walking, rolling, playing Wii Fit, and more. One participant’s family member remarked, “Mom cut across the street to end her walk, but Leah wanted to complete her 40 minutes by walking the cul-de-sac.” Following the latest leaderboard post, another family member posted, “Trying to catch up to Joseph, Leah, Alex, Candice, and Luke! 60 minutes today!”

The past six weeks of this challenge have brought a sense of connection, teamwork, healthy competition, and the joy that comes from spending time outdoors. Belong volunteers, staff members, and families are all engaging in this unique opportunity to keep the Belong spirit alive and well outside the HPUMC walls.

If you are interested in connecting with Belong disABILITY Ministry during this time, contact Stephanie Newland at newlands@hpumc.org to receive our weekly newsletter. Also, if you are interested in resources for a family member or friend at this time, contact Liz Irwin at irwinl@hpumc.org.

Now, time to go get your 30 minutes of activity for the day!
