Announcement about Rev. Andrew Forrest and Munger Place Church

February 11, 2022 by Rev. Paul Rasmussen

Raising up the next generation of great Christian leadership is one of our church’s top five organizational initiatives. Nothing brings me more joy than to see the success of that goal realized.

Some 12 years ago, HPUMC recruited a young pastor from seminary to lead its most ambitious church plant effort – the resurrection of Munger Place Church in East Dallas. As a newly acquired campus of HPUMC, Munger Place was on the brink of closing its doors. Rev. Andrew Forrest accepted the position to lead that renewal, and today, Munger Place Church is among the most vibrant ministries in all of Dallas.

Andrew has been at the helm; His leadership, vision, and witness have been extraordinary – he is one of the most gifted pastors I’ve worked with in my pastorate.

In July, Rev. Andrew Forrest will become the Senior Minister at Asbury United Methodist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Asbury is among the largest and most influential churches in all of Methodism. By national search, Asbury selected Andrew as only the third Senior Minister in its history. Andrew has accepted that position and will be moving his family to Tulsa. This is a significant appointment and call on Andrew’s life, and I could not be more proud of Andrew’s selection by such a wonderful church.

At the same time, by achieving the goal of raising up terrific new leaders, the recruitment and departure of those same leaders leaves a considerable spiritual, relational, and institutional divot in our community.

Andrew and his leadership are not easily replaceable. The great news is that we follow the same God today that led Andrew to this church over a decade ago. We will look to God once again as we prepare for a new season of ministry at Munger Place Church, and I am confident that Munger will press on with great blessing.

Andrew’s last Sunday at Munger will be June 5, 2022. We are blessed to have an extended runway to celebrate Andrew and allow God’s provision for a bright future at both Munger Place and Asbury.

I invite you to hold Andrew, Munger Place, HPUMC, and Asbury firmly in your prayers. God is good!
