Rock, Paper, Scissors

Week 1: Generosity overcomes Greed

  • Isaiah 32:8 says, "But generous people plan to do what is generous, and they stand firm in their generosity." How strategic are you when it comes to generosity? Where might God be calling you to take the next step when it comes to planning how and where you give?
  • We believe God calls us to give spontaneously, strategically, and sacrificially. Which of these comes easiest for you? Which is the hardest? Why do you think that is?
  • Can you think of a time that giving to someone else ended up being a bigger blessing for you than it was for the person you were being generous toward?

Week 2: Humility overcomes pride

  • Pride is mentioned more in the Bible than the rest of the "seven deadly sins." Why do you think the biblical writers go out of their way to specifically warn so much about pride?
  • What is it about humility that has the power to win out over pride every time?
  • Read Mark 9:34-36. What do you think Jesus means when he says, "Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all?"
  • This week, what would it look like for you to choose the needs of others above your own?

Week 3: Grace overcomes Shame

  • Sometimes, like Peter, we are all guilty of following Jesus at a distance (Read Matthew 26:31-75). What does it look like for you this week to take a step closer to Jesus?
  • God can turn our greatest moments of shame into our greatest moments of strength. Are there lessons you've learned from your own mistakes that God might want to use to help others who may be going through something similar?
  • There's nothing we can do to eliminate the shame in our lives, except turn to Jesus and receive the grace he offers. How can you shift the focus from what you're "not" this week, to what Jesus says you are in him?
