Carpenters for Christ

Carpenters for Christ, a ministry of HPUMC since 1995, has made the largest commitment to Habitat for Humanity of any single congregation in the world. We work to lift families out of poverty by helping to provide decent and affordable housing.

Make this season a memorable one—for you and others in our community—by coming out to volunteer with Carpenters for Christ. Our Fall build will be happening October 16 through November 13, in the Joppa neighborhood where we have built a number of houses in the past.

We are registering directly through the Habitat site. You will need to create an account and submit your background check if you have not done so already. Once your background check is complete, you will receive an email to log in and register for your volunteer shift. If you have already created an account and background check, simply log in using your credentials.

Please use Habitat's Volunteer Portal to create an account and submit your background check. Once your account is active:

  • Click “reserved shifts” at the top of the Volunteer Portal
  • Select “group,” enter the Carpenters for Christ reservation code (see below) and click “next” to view available shifts
  • Reservation code: HPUMC

Currently, there are limits as to how many volunteers will be allowed on the job site, and registration is required.

Building Schedule

Day 1: Saturday, October 16 — Stand and brace walls. Cap plate if possible.
Day 2: Wednesday, October 20 — Load, stand, and brace trusses. Sheath walls.
Day 3: Saturday, October 23 — Install sub-fascia, blue board, porch columns. Sheath gables.
Day 4: Saturday, October 30 — Install exterior doors and windows, trim porch, and other exterior items.
Day 5: Wednesday, November 3 — Complete trim and install soffit. Siding prep and begin siding installation.
Day 6: Saturday, November 6 — Continue siding. Begin paint prep.
Day 7: Wednesday, November 10 — Finish trim. Paint.
Day 8: Saturday, November 13 — Finish painting. Punch List. Dedication.


Please note: All volunteers must be registered in the Habitat for Humanity Dallas Volunteer Portal prior to volunteering and volunteers 18+ will be prompted to complete a background check, which must be completed prior to serving. Once your background check is complete, you will receive an email to log in and register for a volunteer shift. If you have already created an account and background check, simply log in using your credentials.

Age Restrictions

  • Under 16 years of age: not allowed on-site during any phase of construction.
  • 16-17 years old: allowed to participate with one adult (over 21) per 5 youth; not allowed to operate power tools or get on the roof.
  • 18+: allowed to participate in all construction activities.

COVID-19

Dallas Habitat’s COVID-19 safety precautions must be followed at all times. Please bring a mask and follow guidelines in place at the worksite. If you or anyone in your household develops COVID-19 symptoms or is exposed to someone who may have COVID-19, in the 14 days prior to your volunteer shift, please cancel your registration.

Check-In Process

All volunteers must check in electronically upon arrival at the site in order to fill out our COVID-19 health screening. The URL and QR code are provided at the site.
