Summer Scripture Series: How We Got the Bible

  • Aug 11, 2021
  • 7:00pm – 8:30pm

Join us for this four-part summer series on how we got the Bible we have today. We'll cover how the Jewish people came to be the first group whose worship was based on the reading and interpretation of a written text, how these scriptures became the first Christian Bible, how we later lost a large portion of these scriptures from our Bible, and how the New Testament came to be. Each of these is a fascinating story in and of itself. Collectively, it is the story of how we got the Bible we have today. The series will end by exploring what translation is, how it is done, the translations available today, and guidelines on picking a translation as well as a study Bible. Here are our dates and topics:

  • June 16: How We Got the Old Testament
  • July 14: How We Lost Part of the Old Testament (The Story of the Apocrypha)
  • August 4: How We Got the New Testament
  • August 11: Translations and Picking a Bible

Register by: Tuesday before each class
