Author Sam W. Haynes brings us his award-winning new book “Unsettled Land,” a history of the Texas Revolution and Republic. In it, we learn the importance of Tejanos, Native Americans, and free Blacks in a land much more complex and diverse than we ever realized. Books will be available for purchase and signing that evening.

About Sam W. Haynes
Sam W. Haynes is a professor of history at the University of Texas at Arlington, where he also serves as the director of the Center for Greater Southwestern Studies. In 2019, he received a year-long fellowship from SMU’s Clements Center to complete his new book, “Unsettled Land: From Revolution to Republic, the Struggle for Texas,” which was published by Basic Books in 2022. “Unsettled Land” has won several awards, including prizes from the Texas Institute of Letters and the Texas State Historical Association, and was listed as one of Foreign Affairs’ “Best Books of 2022.”
