I Say, You Say: Liturgy as the Language of the Church

  • Tuesday, June 17 Register by Monday, June 16
  • 6:30pm – 7:30pm
  • Online only via Zoom

You know when you show up to worship and someone says something like, "The Lord be with you," and you're just supposed to know what to say in return? That element of worship is something called liturgy, and it's one of the rich traditions that held the church together even when most Christians couldn't read. The fancy definition of liturgy is "the work of the people," because it's those collective words and actions that unite people in worship. But the casual definition I like to use in everyday work is "church teamwork."

In this four-week class, I will teach the basics of liturgy: its history, forms, and function. We will also work together to learn to craft our own relevant, precise, and easily memorable prayers. The hope of the class is to enrich your experience of Sunday morning worship and help you find your voice in today's universal church.
