“Dallas’ Little Mexico” Book Study

  • Apr 7, 2026
  • 12:00pm – 1:00pm
  • Room 244/245 or online

Join us for an in-depth look at another area of our own city: Little Mexico, Bishop Arts, and West Dallas. By reading this book and discussing it with friends, we will gain insight into the history of Dallas' Little Mexico, which was Dallas' earliest Mexican barrio. Today, we know this part of Dallas as Uptown, right on the edge of downtown.

The neighborhood began in the early 1900s when many Mexicans moved to Texas after being displaced by the Mexican Revolution. We will be joined by friends who live in nearby West Dallas, as well as the book's author, Sol Villasana. They will all share personal stories and memories, and guide us to learning more about our own city. Through these conversations, we will develop a better understanding of the growth, zenith, and eventual decline of this neighborhood.

Cost:
No charge. Please purchase your own copy of “Dallas’ Little Mexico” by Sol Villasana prior to the start of class.
Led by:
