Unsung Hero: Robert Smalls’ Legacy of Courage and Compassion

Rebecca Bruff served at HPUMC for several years beginning in 1995. Hearing the story of Robert Smalls ignited her curiosity and after much research, and moving to Beaufort, South Carolina, she wrote "Trouble the Water." Bruff says that “Stories connect us, stories shape us, stories cultivate our compassion, and stories encourage empathy.” "Trouble the Water" does all of these.
