Alabama Civil Rights Pilgrimage

Join us for a meaningful Civil Rights Pilgrimage that will take us through pivotal sites in Birmingham, Selma, and Montgomery, Alabama. This three-day journey provides an opportunity to reflect on the rich history of the Civil Rights Movement and the courageous individuals who fought for equality and justice.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Birmingham
Lunch at Fife’s. Visit 16th Street Baptist Church. Tour the Civil Rights Institute. Explore Kelly Ingram Park.

Day 2: Journey to Selma and Montgomery
Tour with foot soldier Kirk Carrington. Lunch at 5 and Dime. Depart for Montgomery. Visit the Rosa Parks Museum. Drive by Dexter Ave Baptist Church and State Capitol.

Check into Elevation Hotel, a civil-rights hotel created by the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI), and have dinner at restaurant Aya Soulful Dining.

Day 3: Reflecting in Montgomery
Visit the Legacy Museum, the National Memorial for Peace and Justice, and the Freedom Monument Sculpture.

Cost: The registration fee will cover 2 nights at the hotel, all museum tickets, transportation, a private guide in Selma, lunch in Selma, and tips.

• Price for a double occupancy room: $350 each

HPUMC Stronger Together, Weaker Apart class will introduce the historical context of the pilgrimage. As we journey through the book "Selma, Lord Selma," we will deepen our understanding to enhance our pilgrimage experience.

The class, led by Amy Bales and Sharon Spratt, is offered both in person and via Zoom on Thursday, October 1, 8, and 15 from Noon-1 pm.
