- What are the top three things that race through your mind when you wake in the middle of the night?
- If God were inviting you to have a conversation about those things, what might he say to you?
- What are your safe spots? What would it look like for you to turn to God as a safe spot?
What keeps you up at night?
This week in Cornerstone, we kicked off a new series Insomnia. We looked at what Scripture says about those sleepless nights and how to get back to rest.
Paul suggests we’re up for one of two reasons: You’re thinking about yesterday. Or you’re thinking about tomorrow. And with either one – we’re scared.
As a kid, when you were scared, what did you do? Where was your safe spot?
As we grow up, our fears get bigger, and we outgrow those safe spots. We can’t hide under a blanket or snuggle up with our parents. We turn to safe spots like liquor, porn, religious legalism, contempt, despondency. We might be able to survive there for a moment, but we will never thrive.
Our true help comes from the Lord.
I lift my eyes up to the hills- where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip- He who watches over Israel will not slumber; Indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. Psalm 121:1-3
He doesn’t sleep so that we can.
Jesus said, “Come to me, you who are weary, and you will find rest for your souls.”
Are you weary? Do you want to get back to sleep?
