Recap- Welcome Home: DDIY (Don't Do It Yourself)
Sunday was the second week in our 3 part series called Welcome Home wherein we're talking about how we can help create deeply devoted followers in the next generation by being intentional in 3 Key Environments:
-A Family that practices the faith together
-A Community of trustworthy family and friends
-A Church the whole family can love
On Sunday, we focused on the second one: community.
The scripture says that a cord of two is stronger than one, and the same is true about us. Too often we try to do things on our own, but we’re so much stronger when we walk through life with other people.
We see all throughout scripture that when God sets a goal, he gathers a group. We’re stronger in numbers, and we are more likely to create deeply devoted followers of Jesus in the next generation if our community is strong.
This was the challenge issued on Sunday morning:
Find your five.
If you’re a parent, find 5 people who will invest and pour into your children. Find people that will reiterate the same things you are teaching your kids.
For all of us, parents and not, we should find 5 people in the next generation to be pouring into. There are so many ways to get involved with the next generation whether it’s babies, children, youth, or college students. You can become a small group leader, teach Sunday school, serve in the nursery, etc. Find a group of people that you can help grow in the faith and become a regular part of their lives.
If we want to create a community of trustworthy family and friends, we’ve got to find our five.
