If you are the parent of a teenager, we have a great opportunity for you!

As parents of teenagers we know you have specific needs.  Our objectives for this class include:

  • To involve youth parents in learning and growing as disciples of Jesus Christ
  • To provide a group of peers for support as we raise our teenagers in the faith and in this church
  • To provide a group to give volunteer help and leadership in youth activities

Class Leader:  Cathy Looney, a well known expert on parenting teens who brings wisdom and humor to the difficult issues associated with parenting teens

Teen Parent Class:  Parenting with Wit and Wisdom

Each new generation of parents worries that their kids are growing up too fast. But according to family therapist Cathie Butler Looney, the issue may be with the grown-ups. The Information Age that’s been blamed for corrupting today’s youth has actually kept them safer than ever---but not without scaring us into a culture of over-parenting that’s as unhealthy for the adults as it is for their children. Looney’s advice is as simple as it is daunting: The most effective parents set limits and establish boundaries---but they also create a safe place in which kids can succeed and fail on their own. To help her parental medicine go down a bit smoother, Looney uses some surprising facts about parenting and teen issues, a healthy dose of down-home Southern wit, and her engaging brand of “stand-up therapy.”
Cathie will be leading the Teen Parent class in September (except for a special event for youth and parents on September 19).  The Teen Parent Sunday School class meets in room 391 at 9:30 on Sundays.
