Worship Services Sanctuary Sanctuary 8:30 a.m. Sundays The 8:30 sanctuary service is a traditional service of worship, incorporating hymn singing, prayer, scripture and a sermon, as well as music provided by our youth and children’s choirs. Slightly briefer than the 9:30 and 11:00 services, it is a favorite of families with children and celebrates the sacrament of Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month. As at all services in the sanctuary and Cox Chapel, worship folders are available for children ages 3-12 to enhance their experience of worshiping God. Sanctuary 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. Sundays Identical services anchor the worship life of Highland Park United Methodist Church in the traditional hours of 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary. In these services the sacramental life of the church is perhaps most evident, with holy communion celebrated on the first Sunday of the month, and the sacrament of Christian baptism, especially for infants, observed virtually every week. Dynamic preaching by the senior pastor, stirring music by the chancel choir, and frequent special instrumental music make these two hours the central part of our worship as a congregation. Cox Chapel
8:30 and 11:00 a.m. Sundays Gathered in the quiet intimacy of Cox Chapel, the congregation worships through hymns, prayers, the reading and proclamation of God’s Word, and weekly celebration of Holy Communion. The service is based on John Wesley’s design and seeks to embody the rich tradition of Christian worship as we move through the seasons of the church year. Beginning with a hymn sing and the joys and concerns of the community, together we encounter the Risen Jesus through expository preaching and partaking in the Lord’s Supper. Cornerstone

Kerygma is the new teaching service led by Rev. Walt Marcum and Rev. Linda Roby on Sundays at 11:00 a.m. in the Great Hall. Instead of a traditional sermon, each week Rev. Marcum will present an extended and in-depth exploration of the scriptures, utilizing the best contemporary scholarship to help participants more fully understand what the scriptures meant when they were written. This fall Rev. Marcum will be working through the gospel of John.
