Coming up: June 3 Rejebian Review The Dragon’s Trail: the Biography of Raphael’s Masterpiece Reviewed by Lurline Morrow
Our own Lurline Morrow will review Joanna Pitman’s The Dragons Trail: the Biography of Raphael’s Masterpiece. A portrait of Raphael and his great work St George and the Dragon is combined with a detective story of the painting’s provenance through the hands of Charles I, Catherine the Great, Joseph Stalin and Andrew Mellon.
Lurline is a graduate of the University of Texas, and holds theology degrees from SMU’s Perkins School of Theology. She was awarded the “Best Book Reviewer” award by the Dallas Observer in their 2006 “Best of Dallas” issue.
By Mark Kreditor
The popular Mark Kreditor will bring us more of the famous Jewish composers and their work that is so loved by Americans. As you know, Mark is particularly interested in the “Tin Pan Alley” age of the 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s, and the stories associated with the composers of that age. We will have ample opportunity to sing along, so come ready to join in. Mark Kreditor is owner of a Dallas property management company “Get There First Realty”, is a member of several Synagogues in Dallas and active at Congregation Beth Torah, and has served on the Boards of The Ann and Nate Levine Academy, Congregation Beth Torah, CHAI House, and The Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas.
Special Events Religious travel opportunities at HPUMC are beginning to blossom with the Advent Holy Land trip this December. There will also be an Oberamergau trip in 2010 with Jeff Hall. But for 2009 consider our 11 day Lands of the Bible cruise leaving November 11, 2009. Athens, Cairo, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Patmos and Ephesus will be featured on a Mediterranean cruise that keeps your bags on the boat while you daytrip in Greece, Egypt, Turkey and Israel. Anyone interested should contact Richard at 214-523-2249 or email stanfordr@hpumc.org. If we have enough interest we will schedule a time to meet and discuss the particulars.
