"As the church, we are all called to be light to the world – to honor God, to share the love of Christ, and to be an active part of God’s loving, life-giving concern for all humankind. What a joy it is to serve! And how amazing - that when we give, we receive the gift of growing in our relationship with God, and in our love for others beyond the walls of the church. 'This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine'!" - Linda

Joe with the volunteer coordinator for Carpenters for Christ, Jane Parker.

"Long ago Carpenters for Christ chose as its defining Scripture, James 2:17, 'Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” Given all its blessings in human and material resources, Highland Park United Methodist Church just has to be a church devoted to outreach.'" - Joe B.

Lori working to send more than 400 inner city kids to camp.

"Raised by a single parent myself, I understand the limitations of that environment. It was important to my mother that I attend camp every summer and I did. It was always the highlight of my year. This ministry always reminds me of where I have been and is the driving force of why I did it. To be in relationship with these wonderful families and send their children off to camp every summer and have that experience with them is the most gratifying thing I can do with my life." - Lori

“Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.” – John Wesley

"Not only do I personally get to reach out to others and 'do all the good I can', but I have the privilege of helping members of this congregation and community do the same. As followers of Christ’s life and teachings, I do not find that there is a higher calling than to love and assist our brothers and sisters when they are struggling."  - Jennifer

"As Christians, we have a unique ability and responsibility to care for our neighbors.  We've experienced God's transformative presence in the world and we are called to join in the renewing of hearts and minds for a future of hope.  May we count our blessings daily and give away more than we receive." - Sarah

"Our hearts are stretched when we connect with others, allowing space for God to work in and through us.  On mission trips, our connections with others can transform and re-define our concepts of wealth, service, generosity, and graciousness.  Our perspective of our world and of ourselves is transformed.  The world becomes a little smaller and we become a community working together to share God's love.  What could be better? - Rachael
