Generationext Men's Group
How do you define leadership? What leaders have molded you? What do you look for in a leader?
Dictionary.Com defines a leader as “ a guiding or directing head, as of an army, movement or political group.” But sometimes real leadership means more than having followers.
Some pundits say they’ve noticed a ‘leadership vacuum’ among today’s figureheads in culture, government and business. If so, how can we as followers of Christ step into that gap and model the kind of leadership Christ typified for His church?
In October of 2009, a new HPUMC men’s group was started to explore these topics – and many more – related to Christian leadership. We plan to have breakfast together and examine leadership topics for one hour each Friday morning for 6 weeks in the Fall and 6 weeks in the Spring.
If you missed the first session, you can catch up by reading Next Generation Leader, by Andy Stanley.
This Spring, we will continue with Wild at Heart, by John Eldredge. Helping men rediscover their masculine heart, this book offers a refreshing break from the chorus of voices urging men to be more responsible, reliable, dutiful ... and dead. God designed men to be dangerous, says Eldredge. Simply look at the dreams and desires written in every boy's heart: to be a hero, to be a warrior, to live a life of adventure and risk. Sadly, most men abandon those dreams and desires---aided by a Christianity that feels like nothing more than pressure to be a "nice guy." It's no wonder that many men avoid church, and those who go are often passive and bored to death. In this provocative book, Eldredge gives men permission to be what God designed them to be---dangerous, passionate, alive, and free.
