Give

Nearly 2,000 years ago, the apostle Paul shared some powerful thoughts with people in the church who were blessed. He urged them "to be rich in good works, generous & willing to share" (1 Timothy 6:18) - In other words, Paul reminded the blessed that if you have more, you should do more and give more. Not only for the sake of those in need, but for the sake of your own sense of joy. So, at Cornerstone, one of the ways we celebrate our blessings (recognizing that by the world’s standards, we have more) is by giving. It’s an expectation for those in our worship community.  So, all of those who share in our worship community are expected to give:

  • Generously… All that we have comes from Christ, and we know that Christ owns all that we have.  As temporary stewards of God’s resources, we are called to generously share those resources for the Kingdom.
  • Proportionately…We are committed to giving a percentage of our income – recognizing the tithe as the benchmark of Christian stewardship.
  • Regularly… We are committed to a pre-determined, proportionate exercise of giving as a spiritual discipline. As resources flow in, we offer our “first fruits” back to God, honoring God before any others.
  • Locally… Recognizing Cornerstone as our spiritual home, we support the local ministries supported by vote of our Community Ministries’ Council.
  • Liberally…As we are able, we go beyond giving to our own church community and contribute to the cause of Christ globally.
  • Cheerfully… Knowing that the heart is transparent to God, we don’t give to God begrudgingly or under compulsion, but with a joyful spirit as our resources enhance the mission of Christ and service to the world.
  • Anonymously… We don’t call attention to ourselves when we give, or expect our offering to produce personal advantage within the church.
  • Expectantly… Counting on God’s promise of provision, we anticipate seeing God use our gifts as God continues to work in our lives.

Each man (and woman) should give what he/she has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
II Corinthians 9:7
