Clothes Bank

“… and you clothed Me.”
Matthew 25:36

The HPUMC Clothes Bank began in 1954 as a service project of the Highland Park Methodist Men’s Club to help the hundreds of local pastors who come to Dallas each July to attend classes at Perkins School of Theology. The tradition of clothing visiting pastors is alive and well. This summer, more than 100 pastors received clothes for their families and the needy in their communities.

The Clothes Bank also provides local support. During the year, Dallas area agencies such as Austin Street Centre, Genesis Women’s Shelter, New Friends New Life, Wilkinson Center, Our Neighbor’s Closet and Reconciliation Outreach visit our Clothes Bank. Vanloads of clothes are taken directly to needy areas of our city.

Beginning in 2007, the Clothes Bank has expanded to accept all kinds of donations. A space is provided for church groups to store the items they collect during their annual drives. There is also space available to briefly house other donations that are given until they can be taken directly to the agencies and organizations in need.
