Mission
CDM aims to assist people in moving from lives of dependency and hopelessness to self-sufficiency and personal productivity. CDM strives to meet as many people’s needs as possible while helping individuals and families develop new strategies for life beyond charity.
Services
- Emergency Food and Resource Pantry: Provides groceries and emergency assistance to 30,000 people each year
- Community Health Services: operates two health clinics and provides medical, dental, pediatric, well woman and diabetes services to over 20,000 uninsured patients per year.
- Youth and Young Adult Education: Provides after-school programs, tutoring, college prep and summer programs to children of all ages- primarily based out of a low-income apartment community in South Dallas.
- L.A.W. Center (Legal Action Works): provides free and low-cost legal care to the working poor. The vast majority are undocumented persons or low-income victims of domestic violence who could not otherwise find legal aid.
- CyberSpot: a neighborhood technology center that provides computer access, technology training and IT classes to the entire community.
- TRAC (Transition Resource Action Center): helps foster teens navigate the difficult transition to adulthood.
- CDM Works: provides jobs and employment training to the local workforce. CDM Works partners with local businesses to provide ready-for-work employees, to train their employees, and enhance the skills of our younger workforce-in-training.
Volunteer Opportunities
Long Term
- TRAC program: Mentor youth who are transitioning out of foster care system and are learning to live independently.
- Youth/Young adult education program: Supervise and teach skills to children
- Medical Clinic: Translate and provide patient support
