Fall10 B - 1st Corinthians

tree_iStock_000011566387XSmall.jpgAn Inspiring Study of 1st Corinthians, Chapters 1-8

Competitiveness, self-sufficiency, and pursuit of freedom were prevalent in the Corinthian culture. However, the Apostle Paul advocates that a relationship with Christ creates a new identity that is counter-cultural. This study group will discover new facets in the ministry of Paul, the church itself and perhaps, their own lives in the process.
Tuesdays, Sept. 14 — Nov. 16
9:30 – 11:00 am in room 329W
Led by Candace Winslow and Joe B. Fortson.
Chapters 9-16 will be offered as a companion study in the Spring.

Fall10 B - Advent Series: What Does the Bible Really Say About Christmas

sacred-spain.jpgAdvent Series: What Does the Bible Really Say About Christmas

Our cultural Christmas does not really exist.  We tend to blend the two Christmas stories in the New Testament in such a way that the result is neither biblical nor accurate. This three part series will examine the Christmas stories – both of them.  In addition we will explore the story of Mary, the mother of Jesus, and how that story developed from the New Testament into later Christian tradition.
November 30: The Birth of Jesus in the Gospel of Luke
December 7: The Birth of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew
December 14: Mary, Mother of Jesus, Mother of God
Tuesdays, 7:00-8:30 p.m. / Room 386.
Register by Tuesday, November 23. Led by Rev. Walt Marcum.

Fee: $15 for series or $5 per evening.

The authors’, Blackaby and King emphasis on revelation through personal relationship makes faith sound like a true adventure--leading believers to engage with people and circumstances they might otherwise have avoided.
