Volunteer HOT List: Immediate and Critical Ways to Serve

Join the Traffic Team
If you have a great smile and a desire to serve consider joining HPUMC's new Traffic Team! Volunteers will welcome our handicapped and senior parkers and show our first time guests to their special parking. If you're outgoing and enjoy being outdoors we want to hear from YOU! Contact Kay Porter at porterk@hpumc.org or 214 523 2227... she’ll fill you in on the details.

Share Your Love of Theater And Make A New Friend
Do you have a heart for theater and people with special needs?  Then learn about JESTERS!  HPUMC is developing a performing theater group for teens (age 16 and up) and adults. Volunteers will be needed for Saturday rehearsals and performances.  Or perhaps you know someone who has autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, or other disability who might enjoy a theater experience.  For more information see http://www.hpumc.org/pages/09_health or email Sue Ringle at jesters@hpumc.org .

Plant a garden

Dallas Bethlehem Center is in need of a small flower garden for the children to enjoy.  This would be a great project for a small group like a Bible study or Sunday school class to tackle.  Contact the director, Carolyn Middleton, for more information, 214.428.5171.

Be a Cornerstone barista
Serve with a fun team at the Cornerstone Cafe on Sunday mornings.  Volunteers should be comfortable working with people and enjoy interacting with the congregation.  No coffee shop or sales experience is necessary. Shifts are broken up into 7:30am to 9:00am, 9:00am to 10:30am, 10:30am to 12:00pm.  Contact Tom at hippmant@hpumc.org or Debbye at phoenixassoc@earthlink.net.

If you have wheels, we have meals
Volunteers are needed immediately for the HPUMC Meals on Wheels program.  Drivers commit to serve one morning every month from 9 to 11am.  Drivers are needed immediately for fourth Fridays and also for third Tuesdays.  Both routes are located in North Dallas.  Please contact Jan McClendon at 214.369.0956 or janmcclendon@sbcglobal.net.

Work one on one with our neighbors in need
Volunteers are needed at Crossroads Community Services to help sort and hang clothing donations, as well as, help clients shop for clothes. Monday-Thursday 8:15am-noon. Days and hours flexible. Contact Jean Jacobs at 214.560.2511 x403 or jjacobs@fumcdallas.org

Support prisoners with words of encouragement
Volunteers are needed to write men and women who are incarcerated.  This involves occasional letters of encouragement.  Your privacy is insured by directing your letters through the Pastoral Care department at HPUMC.  Contact Rev. Barbara Marcum at 214.523.2248 or marcumb@hpumc.org if you are interested in supporting persons who seek Christian support.

Have the gift of hospitality?
Making people feel welcome to HPUMC is one of the most important ministries in the church. It's that critical first impression visitors receive when they walk in our doors, and it sets the atmosphere for the rest of their experience. Consider becoming a vital part of this mission by volunteering to greet and usher in one of the Cornerstone worship services. If you can smile, you can do it!  Contact Tom at hippmant@hpumc.org to volunteer this Sunday!

Drive a golf cart at church
The church has two 8 passenger golf carts circulating the church lots on Sunday mornings assisting those with special needs to and from their cars.  Volunteer cart drivers are needed for two hour shifts on Sunday mornings.   If you would like to serve in this way, please contact Connect & Serve at 214.523.2246 or luederl@hpumc.org.

Serve as a special needs buddy
We have some very special kids with some special needs that would love to have a buddy on Sunday mornings.  These children are in Sunday school and just need a little extra help getting around.  If you are interested in making a new friend as well as making an impact in the lives of a child and the family, please contact Ashley Hickey, Special Needs Coordinator with Children's Ministry, at 214-523-2293 or hickeya@hpumc.org.

Prepare communion
One of the special honors we have as lay leaders is to help prepare the communion elements for Communion Sunday.  The Cornerstone team is looking for 6 volunteers to help with the sacrament, Sundays, 8am – 11am, four times a year.  If you are interested or have questions please contact Lauri Lueder at 214.523.2246 or luederl@hpumc.org.

For a full list of volunteer oportunities go to the Connect & Serve page and click on "In HPUMC", "In Community" or "In the World".  Questions regarding service opportunities, contact Lauri Lueder at luederl@hpumc.org or 214.523.2246.
