Chancel Choir
The Chancel Choir rehearses each Wednesday evening in the Choral Rehearsal Room (392 on the third floor of the Wallace Building) from 7:15-9:15 p.m. New members will be greeted in the robing rooms and assigned music and a robe. You have the option of singing at the 9:30 and/or 11:00 a.m. worship services in the sanctuary on Sunday morning. The choir rehearses 30 minutes prior to each service. This non-auditioned choir welcomes all who love to sing and who will be committed to attending Wednesday rehearsals and Sunday worship. Those who have sung in high school and college choirs will find the Chancel Choir to be a fellowship within a large congregation and a great place to participate in the leadership of worship while singing a wide variety of musical styles. Every effort is made in rehearsals to teach basic elements of musicianship and vocal technique. Our staff of section leaders provides leadership to those who are still mastering the skills of singing. Child care is provided for all Wednesday evening rehearsals. In addition to its weekly worship leadership role, the Chancel Choir has had the opportunity to sing at the 1995 and 1999 Governor’s Inaugurations in Austin and for the Annual Conference in 1998. They have also participated in a service recognizing the 60,000th house built by Habitat for Humanity, as well as various shows including Gospel Celebration and at the Dallas Arboretum. The Chancel Choir's major works repertoire includes Bach's "Magnificat," Schubert's "Mass in E-Flat," Vaughan Williams "Benedicite," Rutter's "Psalmfest," Randall Thompson's "The Nativity According to St. Luke," Mendelssohn's "Elijah" and "St. Paul", Dvorak 's "Stabat Mater", Saint-Saens' "Christmas Oratorio", Handel's "Messiah", and Requiems by Verdi, Brahms, Durufle, Faure, and Andrew Lloyd Webber. Upcoming Chancel Choir Anthems (Summer/Fall 2010)
