Easter is a very special time.  It's the day we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus!
We prepare for Easter by observing Lent.
Lent is a time to grow closer to God.  During Lent we:
  • remember what Jesus has done for us - and how He suffered and sacrificed
  • think about our lives and try to be more like Jesus - by loving and forgiving one another
Easter means Jesus is risen.
On Easter, we remember that Jesus died for us because He loves us.  Then He came back to life and rose to Heaven.

Because of Jesus:

  • new life begins for all of God's family
  • our world becomes brighter, and we are full of joy!
Remembering the true meaning of Easter
At Easter time, people often think more about bunnies, gifts and sweets than about Jesus.  But there are lots of ways to love and honor Jesus - and make Easter more special.  For example, during Lent we may give up something (such as a favorite food or activity), take something on (such as volunteering), pray or go to special church services.

 Tips for Kids

Tips for Families

  •  Give thanks.  Say a prayer to thank God for the gift of family and friends.  Pray for help in living more like Jesus.
  •  Forgive someone.  It can open your heart!
  • Give up or take on something to honor Jesus' sacrifice.  You could give up candy, TV or video games - or something else you'll miss.  Or, you could spend more time helping those in need.
  • Give away things you no longer use.  (toys, clothes) to those in need.
  • Make homemade gifts.  Ask a parent to help you bake hot cross buns (a symbol of Jesus on the cross) or pretzels (a symbol of arms crossed in prayer).  Or, decorate eggs together.
  • Take a nature walk.  What signs of new life do you see?
  • Keep things simple.  Make time to pray, talk and have fun as a family.
  • Eat a more simple meal each week of Lent.  Donate the money you save to your church.
  • Give your time together.  Help out at a local hospital, shelter or food bank.  Bring meal or baskets to people who are homebound.
  • Take part in any special church services or educational events.  For example, does your church offer special services during Holy Week?
