Mission
UGM's purpose is to minister to the spiritual, physical and emotional needs of the last, the least, the lost and the lonely in the Dallas area, the homeless.
Services
UGM provides shelter, meals, Chapel services, showers, emergency medical referrals and clothing to the men, women and children at their two main shelters, Calvert Place for men and Center of Hope for women.
The Discipleship Program combines the basic services with Bible study, counseling, life-skills classes, preparation for employment, job training and later, transitional housing.
Volunteer Opportunities
Administration - phones, data entry, mail processing, etc.
Chapel Services - provide music, present Gospel messages, organize children's services
Chaplain's Assistant - lead Bible studies, assist chaplains in ministering
Discipleship Program Assistant - basic skills/computer course, tutor in literacy and GED, drive residents to appointments, assist with job search, provide legal services, work in library
Donations - sort, assemble bags of donations, seek out donations
Housekeeping - help clean, decorate rooms, prepare and serve meals, clean and organize pantry
Maintenance - landscaping, painting, repairs
Medical - assist clinic with inventory maintenance, donate skills as a nurse or doctor
Special Events - birthdays, holidays, field trips to sporting events or zoo
Teach - (no formal qualifications required) budgeting, job readiness, computer skills, art, etc.
