Mission
To offer a safe haven for homeless and at-risk individuals of Dallas, providing resources for basic survival needs as well as opportunities to start a new life.

Services

  • The Stewpot Breakfast and Lunch: The Stewpot doors open each weekday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Vitamins, coffee, pastries (as available), and air-conditioned space greet over 700 displaced people who walk into The Stewpot each day.
  • Dental Clinic: The Dental Clinic was created to address a void in community services. The Stewpot Dental Clinic has three fully equipped dental operations to fulfill primary care dental needs--teeth cleaning, fillings and extractions.
  • Medical Clinic: Provides a safe haven for individuals who often lack the support of friends and family, and who very often face severe medical challenges.
  • I.D. Program: The first step toward overcoming the barrier of homelessness, The Stewpot provides documentation assistance to more than 3000 persons annually.
  • Mail Drop: Once an individual has been issued a Stewpot photo I.D., he or she is allowed to use The Stewpot's mailing address. This important service is critical for persons attempting to contact family members, complete job applications, and return to mainstream life.
  • Casework Assistance (aka, the Good Samaritan Program): The Good Samaritan Program allows people take the first steps back on the road to a productive life with individualized casework management - such as financial assistance to obtain a valid Texas I.D. (necessary for employment) or certified copies of birth certificates (necessary for application to public housing); assistance in obtaining benefits (Social Security, SSI, food stamps, veteran's benefits, etc.); housing and job referrals; and referrals to treatment programs for alcohol and substance abuse. By constructing a safety net to catch an individual or a family in peril, this program helps prevent homelessness or a return to the streets.
  • Dallas Community Voice Mail: Community Voice Mail empowers people in crisis and transition by distributing free, personalized 24-hour voice mail access nationwide - directly linking individuals to jobs, housing and stability. The Stewpot is the Dallas coordinator for the nonprofit community, and is the largest local user of voice mail boxes through one-on-one casework assistance.
