Hours 8:30 a.m - Noon, Monday-Thursday Services * Clothing Closet: New and gently worn clothing is distributed to the homeless and low-income households in the Dallas area. * Food Pantry: The Food Pantry in Crossroads Community Services serves low-income persons who have their own residence in the city of Dallas. * Community Voicemail: If you do not have a phone but would like to have your own personalized answering service, please come to CCS on Monday or Wednesday between 10am and noon to sign up. * DART Passes: We may provide DART passes for a verifiable doctor’s appointment, social services appointment, parole or probation appointment, job interview, or new job (when you have no other transportation.) * Computers: When we have them, CCS gives used computers to individuals and families on a case-by-case basis. * Financial aid: We provide financial aid on a limited basis to persons who face the possibility of eviction or loss of utility service. Volunteer Opportunities Long Term * Goal Setting/Budget Workshop Volunteers: Facilitate workshops that teach goal setting skills and responsible household budget management; conduct telephone follow-ups with participants to provide encouragement. (Workshops are every Thursday from 10:00am – noon; follow-up phone calls are made at mutually agreed upon times) * Front Desk Receptionist: Greet persons coming to CCS for services, answer phones, occasional light clerical duties. (M- Thur, 8:15am – noon; 1:00pm – 4:00pm) * Newsletter Helpers: Help with newsletter writing and editing; easily done at home or at CCS. * Clerical Assistants: Help with data entry, filing, and mailings. (M – F, 8:15am – noon; 1:00pm –4:00pm) Short Term * Food Pantry Workers: Sort & shelve incoming food products, fill daily client requests for food, help elderly and disabled clients load their groceries and clothing, help organize & facilitate a Nutrition Education Workshop, hold a special food drive at your school, church, company, or organization. (M – Thur 8:15am – noon; other times can be arranged, especially for groups wishing to volunteer together) * Intake Interviewers: Interview persons coming to CCS for services, provide information about other community services. (M – Thur, 8:15am – noon) * Clothing Closet Workers: Distribute clothing items to persons coming to CCS; sort, size and hang incoming clothing donations; assist with organizing clothing drives. (M – Thur 8:15am – noon; other times can be arranged, especially for groups wishing to volunteer together) * Donation Drivers: Serve as a driver to pick up offers of donated items. (as needed/ as available) * Special Project Volunteers: Help assemble hygiene kits, mending kits, mailings, and other special projects that come up throughout the year. (Time to be determined by the scope of project.) In-Kind Donations * Winter coats * Hats and gloves * Men’s tennis shoes * Men’s pants in waist sizes 36” and under * Children’s shoes * Socks and underwear for everyone * Hygiene products * Reasonably current computers * Food, specifically: Canned chicken, beef, and ham (provided it is high protein/low fat) |
