Carpenters for Christ is a servant organization led by lay members of Highland Park United Methodist Church, and through this ministry HPUMC has the largest commitment to Habitat for Humanity of any single church congregation in the world.
The HPUMC relationship with Habitat for Humanity dates back 20 years and embodies some of the Church's deepest principles, taken from the heart of the New Testament. The Apostle James says in Chapter 2, verse 18: "But someone will say 'You have faith; I have deeds.' Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do."
Carpenters extends a hand up, not a hand-out, to some of the most deserving people in the city, and they return the favor by transforming severe neighborhoods into safe places to live, once again. Neighborhoods in which Habitat for Humanity has a strong presence see a decrease in crime and an increase in high school graduation rates.
Our byline is simple: WE GIVE HOPE by GIVING HELP.
Build days are typically Saturdays and no construction experience is required, only a desire to be a part of true transformation in the lives of those in need.
