October 2011 |
HPUMC Missions Sunday
Mission Sunday is October 9th. It is a time when we celebrate the hundred of ways
HPUMC members are answering God’s call to serve the church, the community,
and the world, as well as a time for those not already plugged in to receive helpful
information for taking that first step. Many of the local organizations supported by
the church will be present, as well as ACTION tables, to assist church members with
information about serving.
Proudly wear your HPUMC in Mission T-Shirt on Sunday, October 9th. If you do not
have one, contact any church staff to receive one.

The Methodist Children's Home of Costa Rica
The Methodist Children’s Home of Costa Rica provides housing, food and education
to orphaned children who come from poverty-stricken communities in Costa Rica.
HPUMC made a commitment to help raise the money to create, build and help support
it. On Wednesday, June 29th, 2011, after three years of much prayer, presence with
and work from mission teams and financial support from so many, the first children
arrived in the first completed home! It is a very exciting time but much work remains
to complete Phase One of the Master Plan and ongoing support is needed to sustain
the children in the new home. We take mission trips each October and June to work
on the construction of the home. And in addition we are seeking donors to help with
the financial support of the children. Please contact Lisa Stewart, Global Outreach
Coordinator, at stewartl@hpumc.org to become involved. |

holiday season. Visit the market on November 13th and 20th in the Great Hall or by

Vision for Change
Vision for Change is changing Africa! Vision for Change is Cox Chapel's mission
program to share in Jesus' ministries of teaching and healing by supporting educational
and health care programs in Dallas and around the world. A $10,000 grant was
awarded to the Books for Africa Library Project to relocate and renovate the town library
in Kukurantumi, Ghana. To date, Books for Africa has built 51 libraries and stocked
them with over 300,000 donated books, contributing to rising literacy rates in this
west African country. Another $10,000 grant was awarded to the Kamina Methodist
University, a newly chartered college in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The money
was used to complete construction on the school's first dormitory, which will house 100
students. Kamina offers programs in Information Management, Theology, Psychology
and Education with the aim of educating future Congolese leaders, including former
child soldiers, who will lead their country to peace, political stability, and economic
prosperity.
