HPUMC Sends First Missionary
In April 2009, HPUMC will send Kim Baldwin to be a missionary in Costa Rica. An active member of HPUMC, Kim will be supported in prayer and contributions as she joins Methodist missionaries Ray and Lidia Zirkel. Kim will provide support for many of the Zirkel's projects including a children's home and a clinic. Join us in the Sanctuary services on April 26 when Kim will be recognized and officially sent out from HPUMC. Read her story and join in the journey by offering prayer and financial support.

HPUMC Breaks Ground on First Home at Costa Rica Methodist Children's Home
In February, a team of 12 traveled to Costa Rica to break ground and start work on the first home on the site of the Costa Rica Methodist Children's Home. Costa Rica Fundraising Committee Raises Awareness and Support
In early February, Costa Rica mission teams and supporters gathered to celebrate and anticipate the progress of the Costa Rica Children's Home project. The event raised $12,000 to be used in the building of the homes on the site. In March, participants of a golf tournament raised $1,000 to also be used in the building of the Children's Home. All funds raised for the project will be held in the U.S. until they are needed by our missionary, Ray Zirkel.
Thank you to all who attended these events and pledged their support! Learn more about the project and donate online.

2009 Homes on the Lawn, a Great Success
It took only from February 14th to March 1st to complete homes for both the Estifanos and Haregewoin Families. Two moms and 4 kids now live on a beautiful street in the new Greenleaf II subdivision, and they have only to thank 500 volunteers from SMU, HPUMC and various parts of corporate America for the opportunity. This follows the generous donations made by the Marc Sparks and Brandon Pope Families and the gift of over 700 lunches for our volunteers, including 500 given by Consolidated Restaurant Operations. Thanks to all who came out and made both homes such a great success!

Meet Ed Wilson, new Carpenters for Christ Committee Chairman
Congratulations to Ed Wilson, who assumed the CfC Chairman’s duties in January this year. Ed is a native of the Midwest but has been a proud Texan for many years. He is semi-retired from the accounting profession but has been a regular Carpenters volunteer and financial supporter for approximately 10 years. Ed provides a great blend of physical skills with servant leadership for a diverse group of volunteers, as we continue to build six habitat homes per year.
Ed succeeds Bill Reeves, who served as Carpenters for Christ Committee Chairman for seven years, from 2002 through 2008, and is credited with much of the success in the re-vitalization of Highland Park’s commitment to build 100 homes with Habitat by 2016. Bill remains a faithful Committee member and can be seen working on just about every home we undertake. Also, see our website at www.hpumc-cfc.org.
