Explorers is a spiritual and leisure enrichment group for teens (13+) and adults with special needs. We meet from 6:00 to 8:30 pm on the second Tuesday of each month. During Explorers evenings, we offer participants opportunities to engage in new or favorite recreation and leisure activities. We promote positive and appropriate peer to peer socialization and friendship and encourage all participants on their walk with Christ.

We start our evenings with time to make new friends and catch up, share a devotion and some time in prayer. Later on, we explore a leisure interest area with an Activity Expert. An Activity Expert is someone from the community who is trained or has knowledge and experience in a specific area ex: an art teacher, yoga instructor, music therapist or drama coach. Trained volunteers are present to help each participant engage in the activities to their fullest ability. Explorers is open to the community.

Participants arrive at 6 pm and have time to visit with their friends and have a snack. Around 6:30 pm we gather and share a devotional moment with scripture and prayer and end with a group game. Then the activity expert for the evening explains the activity(ies) which might be one of the following examples:

    • a visual arts project
    • acting and theater activities
    • music workshop or open mic
    • sports workshop, open gym, yoga, group games

At the end of the evening, we'll gather one more time to talk about our accomplishments, discoveries, and challenges. Our evening ends at 8:45 pm.
