"The Cross and the Lynching Tree" provides both a relevant Lenten study and a timely reflection on racism. It is also a theological work that provides deep insights into what our primary Christian symbol really means and how the paradox of the cross informs our faith and contemporary experience.
The class will use the Lenten Study Guide for "The Cross and the Lynching Tree" by Dr. James Cone. The companion book, "The Cross and the Lynching Tree", is available for purchase through online booksellers. It is suggested reading, but not required for the class.
“They put him to death by hanging him on a tree.” (Acts 10:39).This “powerful and painful song for hope” is a perfect fit for Lent!
