HPUMC to start Uptown Church at House of Blues

Over the past couple of decades, HPUMC has grown exponentially, added multiple styles of worship, and developed an even bigger presence in Dallas by planting new campuses, most recently Munger Place Church, Church at the Square, and The Grove Church.

On February 23, members of HPUMC gathered at the House of Blues in Dallas for incredible worship music, great fellowship, and to hear plans for our next campus in Uptown.

Rev. Paul Rasmussen shared his vision for how we're going to reach more people in Dallas than ever before. “For 104 years, we have planted a lot of churches,” he said. “And we believe Uptown is a place that’s starving for evangelism.”

“We absolutely believe that the time is right for HPUMC to expand, to not stay complacent, and to keep reaching people,” Rev. Rasmussen said. “Because we have one mission: to help people become deeply devoted followers of Christ.”

Leading Uptown Church will be Rev. Joy Gonzalez and Rev. Elizabeth Moseley, and they couldn’t be more excited. “We can be a place that gives people a community to belong, a cause to live for, and a church that they can call home,” Rev. Gonzalez said.

She envisions this new campus existing not only in the city but for the city. “We are going to serve the city in multiple ways,” Rev. Gonzalez said, “and continue to ask, ‘How can we relentlessly bless Dallas?’”

Uptown Church will strive to tap into the social connection and energy of the neighborhood to bring people into deeper, more meaningful relationships with each other and God.

Rev. Gonzalez imagines how unique this church can be because of its location. “What if you could run on the Katy Trail on Sunday morning, grab a coffee, come to church, and go to brunch with a few friends you met on Sundays?” she said.

We can’t wait to see the amazing ways God will work through Uptown Church, with Rev. Gonzalez saying, “Thank you for dreaming big with us about what God can do in the city and how it can spread throughout the world. The best is yet to come!”

This will not be your average church. They will host worship at the House of Blues on Sundays and will meet in local coffee shops, restaurants, condos, etc. for various touchpoints throughout the week.

Uptown Church will focus on great worship, ongoing connection through community, and actively serving our city. They will be a congregation that asks questions about life and faith, hashes things out over good food, and be a place for anyone to belong.
